ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE
This project contains two components: the first is part of the Sustainable Energy Program being developed jointly by the University of Calgary with funding from the Canadian International Development Agency. This project has a 3-year duration starting in 2002, the date on which it was approved, although operational activities began in mid 2004. The purpose for this component is technical capacity building in countries of the region to use the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
Component 2 is executed counting with the financial support of the Synergy Program of the European Commission, has a 2-year duration starting in May 2003, and is in charge of a group of European, Latin American and Caribbean companies and institutions: Asociación Española de la Industria Eléctrica (UNESA); Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM); Fraunhofer Institut Fur System Technik und Innovations Forschung (FHg-ISI) of Germany; Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP); Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas de México (IIE); Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); Ministerio de la Industria Básica of Cuba; Comisión de Integración Energética Regional (CIER); and OLADE. The purpose for this component is to develop Clean Development Mechanism tools and publicize them throughout the Region.
