Successfull Panel of Experts " Outlook for Nuclear Power Generation in Latin America and the Caribbean"


OLADE, sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), carried out the Panel of Experts "Outlook for Nuclear Power Generation in Latin America and the Caribbean"". Through virtual communication system it was held a broad discussion among 142 participants (officials of energy ministries, regulatory agencies, academics, technicians from utility companies and specialists in energy planning) from 16 Member Countries and 18 experts of the IAEA, CNEA (Argentina), Eletrobras (Brazil) and INIM (Mexico). The presentations and discussions were diplayed on various topics of nuclear energy use for electricity generation, such as: types of nuclear reactors in operation and technology perspectives, the situation of nuclear power generation world wide and in Latin America, fuel cycle, costs of generation, fuel cycle and nuclear power plant safety and deposition of radioactive waste. The Organization considers that the event had an important impact by bringing the subject to discussion, which coincides with the IAEA assessments. This can be considered a starting point to address the topic between OLADE's work areas, with support from the IAEA.
